Actively Planning for Fall!
Autumn in Western New York is known for its crisp air, showers of colorful leaves, and outings to local farmers markets and cideries. So, in the spirit of fall, Greater Niagara FCU offers some activities you can do to stay active, enjoy yourself, and appreciate the cooler weather.
Apple Picking
Let’s get the most obvious, shall we? Upstate New York is famous for its wide variety of locally grown apples, so starting in September is the perfect time to enjoy these ripe-&-ready fruits. It’s an excellent way to get outside for a few hours and enjoy the wonderful but fleeting weather. Then come home and cozy up by warming the oven and making fresh, baked goods, and fall snacks. Some excellent local apple orchards to visit this season include Becker Farms, Smith’s Orchard Cider Mill, and Blackman Homestead Farm.
Take a Day Trip Down to Ellicottville
This beautiful town is just an hour outside of downtown Buffalo, and the views of the fall foliage are nothing short of breathtaking. Located within the scenic mountains and canopy of color changing trees, this town offers welcoming local shops and an array of delicious restaurants. From Holiday Valley’s Sky High Adventure Park and Ellicottville Brewing Company’s Outdoor Beer Garden to the Ellicottville Salt Cave Spa, there’s something for everyone in this quaint little mountain town. (It’s also the perfect place to get a headstart on ski and snowboard season…)
Get Spooky
Celebrate the season of spookiness by visiting a haunted house, corn maze, or hayride with friends and family. Make sure to keep an eye out for these frightfully fun attractions, complete with ghouls, ghosts, and great times.
Visit Niagara Falls
Without all the massive summer crowds of tourists, autumn is the perfect time to visit Niagara Falls. Truly take in the view without the stress of finding a parking spot or overheating in the summer sun. The adventurous attraction, Cave of the Winds, is open throughout the fall season. Be sure to bring a dry set of warm clothes to change into afterward!
Plan a Friendsgiving Celebration
We know this friendly spin on Thanksgiving isn’t until November, but it’s never too early to start planning ahead! Get your friends together and ask each guest to bring their favorite dishes and desserts. You can use homemade fall decorations and shove as many tables and chairs together as needed to accommodate your pals and celebrate another season of friendship.
Host a Football Watch Party
Nothing gets Western New Yorker’s together like a good old-fashioned football game watch party. Stock up on fan favorite foods and drinks and get ready to huddle around the TV every Sunday and even Monday night. Check out this season’s NFL schedule to plan and pick the games that work for you.
